Should you do a first look on your wedding day?

January 19, 2019

A lot of our couples ask if we recommend a first look. Our take is that generally we do recommend it, but we also take into consideration what matters most to our clients. There’s definite pro’s for doing a first look, so we’re going to share with you the top 5 reasons for doing a first look.

FIRST, WHAT IS A FIRST LOOK?

A first look is when a couple sees each other for the first time on the wedding day – before the wedding ceremony. By seeing each other before the ceremony, you’re then allowing for more opportunities for pictures along with several other benefits.

1. IT’S A MOMENT FOR THE TWO OF YOU

During your wedding day, you and your significant other will be surrounded by your friends and family who will be excited to celebrate with you. Outside of a first look, there really won’t be a time during the day where it’s just the two of you. This is a beautiful opportunity for you both to be able to simply take it all.

2. YOU WILL LOOK YOUR BEST

The bride in particular, will spend hours getting ready in the morning. Every detail will be flawless. When you get your photos done as soon as you’ve gotten ready, you will look your best. After the ceremony, you may have gotten emotional, tired, or there’s a chance something could have happened to your wedding attire. And, if you’re having an Indian/ South Asian wedding, you’ll probably rice and sindhoor in your hair, and you may not want that in your wedding photos.

3. MORE PHOTOS OF THE TWO OF YOU

By scheduling time for a first look, you have more time for couple photos built into your timeline. Our couples that do a first look follow that moment with a morning couple photo session that can last anywhere from 30-60 minutes. If you combine that with an evening couple photo session, you’ll have lots of photos of the two of you together!

4. IT DOESN’T TAKE AWAY FROM WHEN

YOU SEE EACH OTHER AT THE CEREMONY

A lot of people are worried that by doing a first look it will take away from when you see each at first during the ceremony. Well, what if the first look doesn’t take away from the emotions you’ll feel as your ceremony begins. We’ve still seen brides and grooms get emotional, even after having seen other.

That being said, if you have your doubts, then you don’t have to do it. It’s your day and we want it to come together the way you have envisioned. But, if you’re ready and know that you definitely want a first look, then go for it.

5. MORE TIME TO ENJOY YOUR WEDDING DAY

By opting to do a first look, you’ll then be able to do your couple photos, and even family and bridal party photos before your ceremony. By getting the photos done earlier in the day, it leaves more time to truly enjoy your wedding day and spend more time with your family, friends, and guests.
