A Few Tips for Looking Great in Photos

July 1, 2015

When I got married, Sid and I planned our entire wedding in three months. In those few months time, I dropped down to my lowest weight ever and worked out just about every day. Honestly, it was a time in my life where I just felt really good. (Two kids later I am wondering if I will ever get there again… but that’s for another day. 🙂

I do think there is a lot of pressure on Brides to diet and exercise up until the moment they walk down the aisle. You want to look good, so you do what it takes… because you want to make sure the pictures look good.

While I do think its great to take care of yourself… there are a few things you can keep in mind when it comes to your wedding to help make sure your most beautiful self is captured in the pictures.

Here are a few basic tips for looking good in photos:

Smile with your eyes

If a photographer says “smile”, you may give them that 5th grade class picture kind of smile. Although those pictures are cute, they may not be what you want on the wedding day. If I ask you to “smile with your eyes” its about giving the camera a certain look and connection. Practice smiling with your eyes in the mirror and you’ll notice you have a more natural smile.

Shift your body weight

One simple trick is to shift your weight onto one leg (or lean on something). By doing this it can provide a more slimming, relaxed appearance on camera.

Angle your body

Turn your body slightly away from the camera. When you turn, it will also have a more slimming appearance (versus being straight on).

For more natural looking pictures, the best thing you can do is try to ignore the camera and really focus on connecting with your partner. The more interact with each other, the more natural your couple photos will be.

There are actually tons of posing tips and tricks that can help you look good on camera. I am working on launching a new site that is going to be geared for photographers and creatives where I will share more tips like these, as well as insights on the business side of things.
