Tips for the Camera Shy

February 15, 2019

Unless you’re a celebrity or model, odds are good that you’ve never been photographed quite as much as you will be on your wedding day. This can make anybody anxious, and if you’re self-conscious about your appearance, it can be challenging to be in the moment.

Wedding day photography doesn’t have to be a source of anxiety, though. With the right photographer, you’re going to be great in front of the camera. But, if you’re still concerned, then try these 5 tips:

Talk to Your Photographer

I’ve worked with lots of couples who are concerned or feeling a bit nervous. If that’s the case, just let us know. If there’s an angle you hate, or you don’t like being photographed a specific way, be sure to your photographer know.

And, don’t be afraid to ask your photographer for posing tips. Ask in advance of the big day so that you’ll have plenty of time to practice!

Practice Posing

Posing is a skill, not an innate talent. That’s why models spend so much time practicing. If you want to get good at posing, then, you’ll have to practice, too. Spend some time in front of the mirror every day practicing your smile, observing how your body looks in different poses, and making adjustments where necessary. Once posing becomes a familiar routine, it’s not nearly as scary.

Have Fun

This is the biggest day of your life, so there’s no sense in worrying about the cameraconstantly. Let loose and have fun, and you won’t have to worry about posing. The best photographs are usually candid shots that capture moments of love and happiness.

Ignore the Camera

If you’re constantly scanning for the camera, then you’re might become unnatural in the images. Focus on your big day and the moments as they happen, rather than the camera, and allow your photographer to do their job. When you let loose, your relaxation will show through in your photos. If we need you to move a certain way, don’t worry; we’ll let you know!

Actions & Interaction is Easier

When it’s time to pose, it’s tempting to freeze up and smile. This yields nothing but stiff, fake-looking photos. Instead, the key is to interact with your environment. Hug or kiss your spouse. Embrace your mom. Pick up your flower girl.

I hope these tips help! Of course, if you’ve got any questions, feel free to let us know! 🙂
